Yep . . .That IS what he said.

We had a fabulous time yesterday exhibiting our comics at an International Women’s Day event in Glasgow! Thanks to all involved. Wonderful and inspiring stories shared by the presenters, new quotes from new readers, and new friends to boot! Stay tuned for more in-person exhibitions of ThingsMyExSaid quotes in the future!

Today’s quote carries on the theme of gender roles lifestyle choices…

How dare you? When you could be doing other worthwhile things like watching wrestling on TV, making me dinner, or giving me–ahem–attention. Selfish, selfish, selfish.

Long distance sucks, folks. We all know it. And college can be a particularly trying time, because every summer you have that pesky vacation when you might have to go home. And then you might not be around to play flipcup with your boyfriend and his fraternity brothers every week.

Obviously. Who doesn’t want to welcome “the freshman experience” back into into their dorm room? He might as well have just said, “I’d like permission to gain 15 pounds, throw up on myself, and give you an STI in the fall.”

Alright. It’s time to learn a strange bit of trivia about me.

So I have this pattern of being dumped when a terrible, horrendous disaster occurs close to my home. Seriously.  The guy I’m with realizes the world is going to end and that he’d rather die alone than anywhere near me. The first time this happened, he was my first serious boyfriend in high school. You know, that one.

Usually I like to leave you guessing as to which are the quotes from my own life, and which are reader submissions. But today is a special case. And believe me, I wouldn’t post this quote if I didn’t know with 100% certainly that it was real.

You just can’t make this stuff up, folks. And I suppose, in some small way, that was the start of how ThingsMyExSaid was born.

It’s back-to-school time! And that means all over the world, reluctant kids are stuffing their feet into shiny new light-up sneakers. But sometimes, a fully fledged grown up wants to go back to the classroom and improve her skill-set. And when that happens, it’s so great to have support and encouragement from the one she loves.

BACK TO SCHOOL

…Or that.

Chances are, after all the sh*t that went down yesterday with the VRA, DoMA, and #StandWithWendy, that you’re probably a little riled up over something. Are you celebrating? Pissed? Scared? Toweling off before the next round? You probably should.

If you did manage to somehow make it to this blog without having heard about any of the history being made in the last 30 hours, and without being crushed by the weight of the rock you live under, I dedicate today’s quote to you.

Grad School

Right. Because she’s going to school for prostitution?

I gave my artist the day off, so you get to enjoy a true original today! Something tells me I feel worse about my own shoddy art than than this guy feels about his personal preferences:

That’s like, serious. I hope he and his board were very happy together.

That awkward moment when you run into the guy you thought would ask you to his fraternity semi-formal…at the fraternity semi formal.

And then when he still hits on you.

And by hits on you, he says this:

Today we round up our March Madness Mondays with one of the most disturbing submissions I’ve received. Not only is this totally f*cked up, but it’s timely, as well. As the Steubenville  rape case just wraps itself up, so many of us are wondering, “How can horrible acts like this still happen? How is it possible that women and girls are still seen time and again as less than a person?” The best answer I can muster, particularly after reading this quote, is look to the schools. You know, those factories of peer imitation and role-modeling.

Who doesn’t want this high school teacher taking his/her daughter under his wing?

At least this guy seems to be in some level of distress for being a total slimebag. Do we blame the movies, for casting pretty little–excuse meBright Young Things to prance around as leading ladies? Do we blame the students, for wearing cute little skirts and totally asking for it? Or do we blame (my preferred inclination) this asshole for being a creepy pervert? If you can’t get through a work day without mentally undressing your students, it’s time to find a new job.

Ordinarily, I try to let the quotes speak for themselves. But as the submissions keep coming in, and some of them are so incendiary, timely, and just upsetting, I may find it harder and harder (pun not intended) not to throw in my two cents about them. Your discussion is heartily encouraged.
